]]>It is easy to feel disconnected from the natural world around us. But this simple practice can help us reconnect with the Earth and, in turn, improve our physical and spiritual well-being! Enter grounding —a practice that involves direct contact with the Earth's surface. In this blog post, we will delve into the spiritual and health benefits of grounding and how this age-old practice can positively impact your life.
The Science Behind Grounding
Before we explore the spiritual and health aspects, it's essential to understand the scientific foundation of grounding. Grounding is based on the concept that the Earth carries a natural electrical charge known as negative ions. When we come into direct contact with the Earth's surface, such as walking barefoot on grass or soil, we can absorb these negative ions, which have been associated with various health benefits.
Reduced Inflammation: Studies suggest that grounding can help reduce inflammation in the body. Chronic inflammation is linked to various health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis.
Improved Sleep: Grounding has been shown to positively influence sleep patterns, helping individuals fall asleep faster and enjoy deeper, more restful sleep.
Pain Relief: Some people report relief from chronic pain conditions when practicing grounding. It is believed to help balance the body's electromagnetic field and reduce pain sensitivity.
Stress Reduction: Grounding can promote relaxation and reduce stress by balancing the body's stress hormones, such as cortisol.
The Role of Modern Shoes in Disconnecting Us from Grounding
In our modern lifestyle, we've unwittingly created a barrier between ourselves and the Earth's energy: our shoes. The thick, insulating soles of modern shoes are designed to protect our feet, but they also isolate us from the Earth's electrical charge. When we wear shoes with synthetic materials and rubber soles, we effectively insulate ourselves from the ground beneath us.
This disconnection from the Earth's energy can have profound effects on our health and overall well-being. The accumulation of positive electrical charges in our bodies, caused by factors like exposure to electronic devices and synthetic flooring, can lead to imbalances. Grounding provides a way to discharge these excess positive charges and restore balance.
Spiritual Benefits of Grounding
Beyond its scientific grounding (pun intended), many individuals find spiritual and emotional benefits in this practice:
Enhanced Awareness: Grounding can sharpen your awareness of the present moment, fostering mindfulness and deepening your connection with the Earth.
Balanced Energy: Some practitioners report feeling more centered and balanced after grounding, as if their energy is aligned with the natural world.
Emotional Healing: For some, grounding serves as a way to release negative emotions and emotional blockages, allowing for emotional healing and personal growth.
How to Practice Grounding
Grounding can be easily incorporated into your daily routine:
Walk Barefoot: Spend time walking barefoot on natural surfaces like grass, soil, or sand.
Gardening: Engage in gardening or simply sit in a garden to connect with the Earth.
Water Contact: Swimming in natural bodies of water like lakes, rivers or the ocean can provide a grounding experience.
Earthing Products: You can also use earthing products such as grounding mats or sheets that connect you to the Earth's energy indoors.
Grounding is a simple yet powerful practice that offers a myriad of spiritual and health benefits. By reconnecting with the Earth's energy and addressing the disconnection caused by modern shoes, you can reduce inflammation, improve sleep, manage stress, and enhance your spiritual well-being. Whether you choose to walk barefoot in the park or meditate in your garden, grounding can be a transformative practice that brings you closer to nature and to yourself.
So, why not experience the profound benefits of grounding for yourself? Your body, mind, and spirit may thank you for it.

The Medicinal Magic of Parsley
Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is more than just a garnish; it's a powerhouse of nutrients and medicinal compounds. This herb contains vitamins (such as vitamin K, C, and A), minerals (like iron, calcium, and potassium), and antioxidants. But what makes parsley truly remarkable is its unique blend of phytochemicals, including volatile oils, flavonoids, and coumarins, which contribute to its impressive health benefits.
Medicinal Marvels of Parsley Tincture
Digestive Wellness: Parsley tincture is a digestive ally. It stimulates the production of enzymes, making it an excellent remedy for indigestion, bloating, and gas. By soothing the digestive system, it fosters overall well-being.
Anti-Inflammatory Power: Rich in flavonoids and antioxidants, parsley tincture combats inflammation, benefiting those with joint pain and arthritis. Its anti-inflammatory properties also hold promise in preventing chronic diseases.
Detoxification: Acting as a natural diuretic, parsley tincture aids in flushing out toxins and excess fluids from the body, promoting kidney health and reducing water retention.
Immune Support: Loaded with vitamin C, it bolsters the immune system, helping the body ward off infections and maintain vitality.
DYI Instructions:
Harvest and Clean the Parsley: Ensure your parsley is fresh and free from dirt or pesticides. Wash it thoroughly and chop it finely.
Fill the Glass Jar: Fill the quart-sized glass jar halfway with chopped parsley.
Add the Alcohol or Vegetable Glycerin: Pour the organic grain-free alcohol or vegetable glycerin over the parsley until it's completely submerged.
Seal and Store: Tightly seal the jar and place it in a dark, cool location, like an apothecary closet. Allow the mixture to steep for 6 to 7 weeks, shaking it gently every few days to agitate the ingredients.
Strain and Bottle: After the steeping period, strain the liquid through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into an amber glass bottle. Discard the remaining parsley.
Storage: Store your parsley tincture in a cool, dark place to maintain its potency.
Using Parsley Tincture
Your homemade parsley tincture can be used in various ways to reap its medicinal benefits:
Application: For a quick dose, place a few drops (2-3) under your tongue and hold it there for a minute before swallowing.
In Beverages: Add a few drops to a glass of water, tea, or any beverage of your choice.
Culinary Use: Incorporate the tincture into salad dressings, soups, or sauces for an extra dose of flavor and health benefits.
Topical Application: Mix a small amount with a carrier oil and use it topically to alleviate muscle or joint pain.
Digestive Aid: Take a few drops before or after meals to support digestion.
Parsley may have started as a simple kitchen herb, but its medicinal potential is undeniable. By crafting your own parsley tincture using organic grain-free alcohol or vegetable glycerin, you can harness its healing power and offer a natural remedy to family and friends. Whether taken sublingually, added to beverages, or used in culinary creations, parsley tincture can be a valuable addition to your herbal medicine repertoire, providing a holistic approach to health and wellness.
I will be back soon with another DIY recipe!
Enjoy,

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in maintaining our body's immune function and detoxification. Dry brushing stimulates the lymphatic vessels lying just beneath the skin's surface, encouraging the flow of lymph fluid. This gentle massaging action aids in removing toxins, waste, and impurities from the body, reducing the burden on our immune system. Regular dry brushing can promote a healthier, more vibrant you from the inside out.
Dry brushing is more than just a surface-level exfoliation method. The process activates the body's natural healing mechanisms by increasing blood circulation to the skin. Improved circulation means more oxygen and nutrients reaching the skin cells, promoting cell renewal and rejuvenation. Individuals with various skin conditions, such as mild acne, eczema, or dryness, may find relief through consistent dry brushing, unveiling smoother, clearer skin over time.
The gentle sweeping strokes of dry brushing provide more than just physical benefits; they also have a calming effect on the nervous system. The repetitive and rhythmic motion of the brush helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, triggering a relaxation response. This, in turn, can reduce stress, anxiety, and even improve sleep patterns. By incorporating dry brushing into your daily routine, you may find yourself better equipped to tackle life's challenges with a calmer mind.
Many individuals seek solutions for skin tightening and reducing the appearance of cellulite. While no magical cure exists, dry brushing offers a natural and non-invasive method that may help improve skin elasticity and diminish the dimpled appearance of cellulite. By stimulating circulation and promoting lymphatic drainage, dry brushing may help break down the fatty deposits responsible for cellulite, while also toning and tightening the skin.
Dry brushing can transcend the realm of mere physical benefits, extending to the spiritual dimension. The process of dry brushing often involves mindfulness and self-care, creating a unique opportunity for individuals to reconnect with their bodies and embrace self-love. As you engage in the ritual of dry brushing, you can use this time to set positive intentions, practice gratitude, or simply enjoy a few moments of quiet reflection. The sacred act of dry brushing can enhance the mind-body connection, fostering a deeper understanding of oneself. I have only just started on my journey to dry brushing. It is something I have wanted to intentionally do for quite some time and only after a couple of months I have noticed my skin on my legs is no longer dry through the huge shift in seasons.
Conclusion
Dry brushing is a beautiful and holistic practice that provides numerous benefits for both the body and soul. From supporting the lymphatic and nervous systems to promoting healing, skin tightening, and even spiritual growth, this ancient technique is a treasure trove of wellness advantages. By incorporating dry brushing into your daily routine, you can embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-care, embracing the harmony between body, mind, and spirit.
Remember, like any new wellness practice, consistency is key. Take the time to enjoy the process, be patient with yourself, and revel in the rejuvenating power of dry brushing. Happy brushing!

Are you seeking alternative, functional solutions aside from the typical yet limited conventional options?
Are you looking for a tried and trusted natural remedy that has a rich history of medicinal use?
Take the leap of faith to reclaim your health with something as common as the cold.
Elderberry is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in the world and is most often taken as a supplement to treat cold and flu symptoms. Elderberry refers to the vast canopy of varieties of the Sambucus tree, which is actually a flowering plant (1). But, for educational purposes, when we refer to elderberry, we are referring to the Sambucus nigra, also known as black elder, blue elder, American elderberry, or European elderberry (2).
Did you know there were elderberry-based prescription medications dating back as far as Ancient Kemet (or Egypt)? Historically, various parts of the elderberry tree (roots, leaves, stems, flowers, and fruit) have medicinal and culinary purposes. For example:
Benefits of Elderberry
diabetes alleviation (3). In fact, elderberry medicinal properties are associated with counteracting oxidative stress (4). When ingested within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, elderberry syrup has been suggested to help relieve and shorten the duration of the common cold and influenza symptoms (6,7).
Why DIY?
If you know me, you know that I am super passionate about homemade, DIY products that empower us to reclaim our bodies and health. I can’t begin to think of all the advantages, but for one, you’ll save a lot of money making your elderberry syrup. Several natural elderberry syrups are available at many local health stores and online retailers and typically cost around $15 or more for 4-8 ounces. This homemade recipe makes a quart, 32 whole ounces!
What is fantastic is you can fully customize this recipe based on your needs and flavor preferences. We love ginger in my household, so we loaded up on the ginger. But, if you don’t have ginger, turmeric also works well. Some have used ACV or garlic depending on the desired immunity power.
That said, if dried elderberries are not accessible at a local health food store or apothecary, these dried elderberries are at a great deal to make your own. If you’re quick for time, there are some great family-friendly elderberry gummies and elderberry syrup that work well but cost more.
Homemade Elderberry Immunity Syrup Recipe
The standard dose is:
½ - 1 teaspoon for children
½ - 1 tablespoon for adults
1 cup dried elderberries
1 cup local, raw honey
1/2 cup dried rosebuds
1 cinnamon stick
2 Tbsp. freshly grated ginger
2 Tbsp. dried orange peel
1 Tbsp. cloves
1 Tbsp. rosehips
1 tsp. allspice
fresh lemon juice (2 lemons)
4-6 cups filtered water
- Makes one quart.
Step 1:
Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan (excluding the lemon and honey). Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 40 minutes.
Step 2:
Remove from heat and strain into a mason jar or clear glass container. Squeeze the lemon juice and add the local, raw honey. Mix thoroughly.
Step 3:
Store in a sealed glass container in the refrigerator. The syrup will last 2-3 weeks, depending on ingredients.
Please note, the raw berries, bark, and leaves of the plant are also known to be poisonous and cause stomach problems.
Because of its powerful effects on health, elderberry could potentially interact with several medications. If you currently take any medications, you should have a conversation with your health care provider before using an elderberry supplement or any other elder plant products.
Resources
There are often “DIY beauty hacks” that spread like wildfire. Stick around for a few months and once the tip doesn’t show long term results, beauty freaks move on to the next quick fix.
After evaluating four different Online Consultations this morning, I noticed a trend amongst the the answers I received... “ACV treatments for acne.” Please oh please beautiful people, please STOP! If you notice small visible white bumps on your face after using this treatment IT IS NOT FOR YOU BOO! Due to the fact that vinegar is an acid and can clear some topical infections, it can also cause skin irritation, and even severe damage if not used properly. It can increase the levels of other hormones linked to acne and make your skin more sensitive to them, so if you aren’t careful it’s easy to cause skin damage.
CHEMICAL BURNS FROM TOPICAL USE OF ACV
If you are using apple cider vinegar topically to treat an external issue such as acne, ring worm or a fungus, the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar can cause damage to the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin, open sores, cuts or burns. Always mix the vinegar with water when applying topically. If you apply apple cider vinegar to your skin and you feel a burning sensation it is best to stop using it. If the acid in the vinegar burns your skin or works its way into an already existing wound, it can cause pain and scarring. This “how-to” can prove to be ineffective for most people and potentially dangerous, resulting in scarring, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation, and even possible malignant transformation. Be aware of this phenomenon and better yet, educate yourself on the potential adverse effects of some at home treatments. Once the skin has been damaged, it is almost impossible to reverse the side effects of a chemical burn.

]]>Fats are mandatory for proper health and essential for healthy skin as they make up the cell membrane and are used inside the cell. Quality fats are also sources of important fat-soluble vitamins like Vitamin A, K, B12 and E. The best sources of these fats are from properly sourced products. Though there are a plethora of plant based options, for those that are not vegan can choose organic animal-products, which are much higher in omega-3's than their grain-fed counterparts.
If you find that you aren’t getting enough Omega-3s from diet alone, it would be wise to consider sourcing an excellent supplement.
2. Slow eating
Proper digestion is foundational to great skin and health. This is because every organ in our body is dependent on our digestive system to break down nutrients for assimilation. But where does digestion really start? Hint: it’s not the stomach. It’s the brain. Sound crazy? Hear me out. When we smell or see food and take time to appreciate it, our brain is given the chance to signal the salivary glands to start producing saliva. We then intake food and our mouth breaks it down mechanically (by chewing) and chemically (with saliva). If we are stressed and rushed while eating, our brain does not trigger this salivary response, the proper digestive processes for what we’re consuming, and we don’t break down our food enough, which places a burden on our stomach. Thus, we must slow down, take time to smell and enjoy our meal, relax and chew our food for at least 30 seconds.
3. Hydration
We have all heard how important it is to drink enough water and stay hydrated. But, how do we know what is enough water to drink? To calculate the right amount for ourselves, we must divide our body weight by 2, and that is the number of ounces we need to drink daily. However, the tricky thing is that a lot of us consume diuretic beverages which deplete some of our water. These include sugary drinks, coffee, caffeinated and some herbal teas, soda, and alcoholic beverages. To solve this problem, we must consume an addition 1 1/2 glasses of water for every 8 ounce glass of diuretic beverage.
4. Minerals
Minerals may only make up a small percentage of the nutrients found in the body but they are absolutely essential. The problem is that we are not getting enough minerals from the foods in our modern diet due to soil depletion and loss of mindful organic farming methods. This means that we must consciously consume extra minerals to feed our bodies. Some great ways to do this are through a mineral salt sole, trace mineral tinctures or a quality multi-mineral supplement. Secondly, a salt sole or trace mineral drops also provide valuable electrolytes that the body needs to both retain water and for proper absorption. As our body uses electrolytes, especially through sweating, we must consume and replenish them.
5. Organic topical wellness
We can’t take care of our skin without nourishing and treating it topically. Skin is a 2-sided organ meaning that we must not only feed it from the inside but also protect it from the outside. It’s important to source quality skincare products that are appropriate for your skin, aka acne prone and youthful vs dry and mature, and that don’t contain irritants. Take time to wash your face and moisturize morning & night with BFree Organics' Cleanser, apply our Daily moisturizer SPF 30 daily, and most importantly use our Vitamin C Golden Hour antioxidant brightening serum for complete topical nourishment of your skin.
